Those who haven’t heard the story of “Pipe Kitty” are missing out!
On Friday, June 8th, the Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County posted a cry for help on their Facebook. In Bartlett, some people had heard a kitten crying for help somewhere underneath the yard of an unoccupied house. When they were unable to lure the kitten out, they called the Humane Society, who arrived on the scene immediately. Upon their arrival, the Humane Society saw that the situation was an intricate one, with yards and yards of piping running underground and a skittish kitten running from one end of the yard to the other, and they raised the alarm for plumbing help.
That’s when Greenway stepped in! Greenway Home Services operates under the axiom “treat others as you would be treated,” and although it’s usually customers that benefit from their rescuing services, this time it was a kitten in need of a hero. Mike Wilson, the Senior Manager of Greenway Home Services, called in his plumbing team to help, little knowing that he would spend the next fourteen hours with his team, digging holes in various areas of the yard. The kitten was crying, which only fueled Greenway’s determination to rescue it, and gave them hope in the knowledge that the kitten still had the strength to make itself heard.
Yard by yard, Greenway Home Services painstakingly worked to extract the kitten, restricting access to parts of the piping and limiting places for the kitten to run. They tried all manner of maneuvers to coax the kitten out, working with shovels and pipe cameras to accomplish their mission. All the while, Greenway Home Services kept the public notified on their progress through Twitter, gaining a large following in a short amount of time.
Around four o’ clock that night, Piper the kitten was free. One of the
@MyPipeKitty Twitter followers suggested “Piper” as an apt name, and Mike agreed. A week later, Mike adopted the kitten from the Humane Society and brought it home to stay. Today Piper is happy, playful, healthy, and still works to make herself heard!
All’s well that ends well, and Piper’s story ends happily.
